Malaal Movie Review

Marudhar Express is a Romantic  Hindi Drama film produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in collaboration with Mahaveer Jain, Krishan Kumar, Bhushan KumarMovie is remake of the telugu film 7G Rainbow Colony (2004).

Movie  is directed and written by Manglesh Hadawale . This movie is Produced under the banner of  Bhansali Productions. Debutant actor Meezaan Jaffrey (Javed Jaffrey’s Son) as Shiva More  and Sharmin Segal (Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece) as Aastha Tripathi are in lead roles. Other character include Sameer Dharmadhikari as politician and Ankush Bisht as Dev.

Malaal is a simmering love story set in the mumbai of the late 90’s . Film revolves around the story of a Shiva More   and Aastha Tripathi, who have completely different background.

Shiva is a 21 years old rowdy guy (tapori) who lives in a Mumbai chawl. He is always getting into fights, he drinks, gambles. He does’t have a job.

Aastha belongs from a well endowed family and but due to severe financial troubles, she along with her family moved to the same chawl in Mumbai. She is pursuing CA and will soon be engaged to the son of a family friend.

Movie starts with Shiva stumbles upon Aastha in the narrow passage after  he wins in a gully cricket match. And there the tutu meme starts between them as shiva is shown to be following to a political party which targets Non Mumbai people.

Soon sparks fly off between them and shiva falls in love with her and he is upfront about his feelings. Initailly aastha is reluctant to his feelings but soon Aastha also starts falling for him. You will see them meeting under hoardings promoting Titanic, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which clearly portrays the time of 90’s backed with timeless songs of 90’s.

Aastha family considers him as good for nothing and doesn’t want their daughter to be around him. So acting as the main Villain.

As we all know Bhansali production is famous for grandeur and huge sets . Surely malaal story doesn’t demand all that but detailing of the 90’s chawl was completely remarkable. The Background and the ambience will definitely will give the flavor of 90’s mumbai.

The background score is completely Amazing especially the title track, Ek Malaal and Romantic song Naad Khula. The music is based on Local marathi music.

Even the cinematography will keep you amazed. Though the story doesn’t offer anything new, You can easily guess the twist and turns of the film which consist of brawl, love, songs, family opposition.

The story is pretty boring. And you can easily presume from the title that the love wont blossom at the end.

Malaal is remake of the Telugi film 7G Rainbow Colony . Director Mangesh tried his best to repeat the same story in a new presentation but fails to captivate the audience. Story surely  captures the essence of 90’s film : love has the power to change your destiny.

A large amount of time is used establishing Shiva and Astha love each other.

Meezaan is completely amazing with his acting, he will make you believe in his role. Sharmin is also good with her innocent acts. The couple delivers a good onscreen chemistry.

You should watch Malaal , if you wish to relive the 90’s.

Review: 2.5/5
